new postcards have arrived, and studiomate porkchop offered to model them for the sketchblog. labeling, stamping, and spamming the world will occur this week, so if your fridge has been asking for a new postcard, your cork board has a 4"x6" open space, or you're an art director with a ridiculously huge illustration budget (i'm talking AIG bonus, big!), send me an email with your address and i'll send you a postcard.

porkchop has his postcard . . . will you?

special thanks to josh cochran for porkchop's hair and makeup.

i was thinking about ampersands and handdrawn type, and thought i'd post up a little dillustration. partially this popped into my brain as our apartment (based upon the design*sponge sneak peak) was chatted about on etsy's blog, the storque. they have a feature called get the look, where they point to a design, interior, etc. and then show off similar etsy products. thanks @iheartmoustaches.

ao and i have our apartment featured on design*sponge (thanks grace and anne). their sneak peek section presents the households of artists, designers, and even illustrators! we had a great time getting our place together, buffing, polishing, photographing, and only one knife fight (ao won, but i'm a quick healer). special thanks to stephanie for her styling assistance.

ao was a bit miffed that we new yorkers (brooklynites) didn't get 'i voted' stickers, so i made one. no, it's not sticky, so if anyone happens to have a buttonmaker or sticker paper, give a yell.

here's a little one without state designation:

ao and i got up and headed to the voting booth this morning. for most elections, the line is at most five deep, and that's probably optimistic. this presidential election, while we didn't have a 3 hour wait or a line circling the block, there were a good 50 people waiting to get into the polling station and another 20 or so in line for our district, it was quite exciting, (scroll down to see my ballot) and don't forget . . . vote early! vote often!

on another election note, one of my professors from art school, d.b. dowd, is illustrating the election for the st louis beacon.

yes, ladies and gentlemen, i have been named mr. baseball for the state of indiana.

in fact this is not the alex meyer of this here website. this alex meyer is 6'7", 200lbs, a right handed pitcher, and was drafted in the 20th round by the boston red sox (but can you draw mr. meyer!?). a highly sought after high school pitcher, he will be attending the university of kentucky in the fall and was recently named the greensburg daily news' male athlete of the year:

In just 51 1/3 innings of work, Meyer notched 108 strike-outs including 17 in the Regional Championship game where he posted a 3-1 decision against New Palestine.

He ended an unbeaten season in which he allowed but 19 hits, with an ERA of 0.95. That gave him a place among the state leaders in all three categories - earned run average, strike-outs, and wins.

congratulations alex, we'll be rooting for you.

my good friend silver recently appeared on who's want to be a millionaire, with meredith viera. taped back in november, i waited patiently as a phone a friend (i wasn't used) and then for the episode to air. well here it is. well done silver. (spoiler, he didn't win a million dollars)

some of you may have noticed (uncle wally?), that eben.com was down this weekend and struggling at the beginning of the week. an explosion at my hosting place took down many a server this week. honest, an explosion!

On Saturday, May 31st at 4:55pm CDT in our H1 data center, electrical gear shorted, creating an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no customer servers were damaged or lost.

things are currently back up and running, but keep your fingers crossed. so to honor the fragility of technology, here are some messy sketchbook pages.

today is the brooklyn bridge's 125th birthday. brooklyn bridge, you don't look a day over 90.
events / history

art note: my friend silver asked me to make him a graphic he could put on a t-shirt, so i dusted off an old illustration, cleaned it up a bit, dropped some type (before seeing the official logo). if you see silver today in boston walking around wearing a shirt with this graphic on it, please complement him on his nice shirt, he put a LOT more work into it than i did.
