i recently completed a subway tile header for my favorite greenpoint news source, newyorkshitty.com. run by the wonderful and tenacious miss heather, newyorkshitty keeps an eye on greenpoint, calling out shitty developers, learning the shit behind new restaurants and bars, and noticing plain ol' poop on the street. if you live in greenpoint, i can't recommend newyorkshitty enough.

greenpoint's own peter pan bakery where i have just been introduced to their red velvet donut, their red velvet donut WITH COCONUT!? and their whole wheat donut which sounds like some kind of delusional health-nut abomination, but in fact is possibly their most delicious invention of all (and not healthy at all)!

draw fewer white people

i find that when drawing people, i tend to default to white males, age 25-45. while i have absolutely no idea how this could happen, it's sometimes useful to acknowledge said ticks, crutches and habits with a note, or electrical shock. in this case, i am hoping that a note will be a sufficient reminder.

texas observer: rick perry's texas tea

cover illustration for the texas observer. upset with the state of the union and the recession, "governor good hair" (texas governor rick perry), tea-partied and threatened secession. in an attempt to explain the situation, my personal texas advisor scoured the intertubes for some commentary to sum up texas politics:

Texas never wanted any government to begin with, so we've just consistently sent our least able, totally wacked-out people to do the job. As our beloved Molly Ivins once wrote, "In Texas, it's actually better if a candidate for office has a criminal record." (via huffington post)

sva figure drawing workshop
