an article about the dreaded birthday dinner. a ton of folks at a fancy restaurant, a hefty check, and the scheming, conniving and bitterness that goes along with this unfortunate meal. i liked my concept of using the last supper, but someone please remind me to keep it simple on these half day turnarounds.
slate: happy birthday, you bastard, by john swansburg

on a separate note, slate.com relaunched with a brand new site. congrats to the art staff, the new site looks great. it's bigger, cleaner, easier to navigate, you know, all the stuff you want from a big relaunch. if you haven't seen it, check it out.
